Simple and Advanced SEO Hints and Tips

The SEO hints and tips you find here will not only show you how to optimize a web page properly, but also get you high Google listings and masses of free traffic. That is worth every penny you might spend on the right information.

You no doubt understand all the basic stuff, but in case you are new to this, let’s first have look at these basic SEO hints and tips, since many seem to omit them from their web pages. The most important are the HTML tags that are used by search engines to determine the relevance of your page to the search term used by the search engine’s customer.

Note the term ‘web page’, because many people don’t realize that Google, along with most other search engines, doesn’t list websites, but individual web pages. You have to understand how search engines calculate your listings if you are to understand how to optimize a web page.

I am going to refer to Google, not only because it is the biggest of the search engines, but also to save the bother of referring to search engines all the time. I will refer to Google, but what applies to them also applies to the rest. Here are the main SEO basics:

a) The TITLE tag. This appears in the HEAD portion of your html, and is not actually seen by your visitors but is the most important tag on your web page because the spiders place very high weight to it. Use your main keywords here, and also any other text that will inform Google of the theme of your web page.

b) Heading (H) tags. Your page title should be placed within H1 tags, and should contain the same major keyword as you used in the TITLE tag. Any subheadings should be contained within H2 tags. I don’t use any of the lower tags, from H3 down, except perhaps H3 very occasionally. Google will regard any text with H tags as being important, with most weight given to the lower numbers. However, if you place everything in H1 tags, that will dilute its importance on your page and defeat the object.

c) Text enhancements: Use bold, italic and underline enhancements sparingly, and where you one again want to stress the importance of certain keywords.

d) Your keyword density should be concentrated in the first third of your web page. Don’t use too many: I get good results with under 1% overall keyword density, but using the main keyword in the first 100 characters, once in the last paragraph and once more each 300 words but concentrated in the first third of the page. Thus, an 800 word page will have the keyword three times in the first 250 words and once in the last paragraph.

e) Meta tags: the only meta tag worth using is the description tag, which is used by most search engines in the description of your web page in their listings. Google mainly uses it exactly as you write it. The keyword tag can also be used, but few search engines are thought to use it: Google does not. Any other meta tags are a waste of your space. Anybody that claims differently is wanting to sell you something.

These are the basic hints on SEO, now here are some of the more advanced SEO hints and tips that will teach you not only how to optimize a web page, but to understand the way that search engines work. These are less obvious, and generally not used by beginners to search engine marketing.

f) Use text links to other pages on your website. Search engine spiders love text, and fancy graphics or java links might look great, but don’t get you kudos from the spiders. Stick to text if you want a good listing: there’s no point in fancy graphical links if you have no visitors to use them.

g) Try to use as much text as possible, and as little code as possible. Your code to text ratio should be minimized as far as possible because . . . yes, you’ve got it! Spiders love text!

h) Another useful SEO tip is to maximise your off page linking strategy. It is possible to get a #1 spot on Google with no content: just loads of links coming into your web page from other websites. Not just any websites, but authority sites, so reciprocal links to and from web pages not directly related to your niche are a waste of time, and can even harm you. Link farms can positively damage you.

i) Use anchor text for your links where at all possible. Google shouldn’t have to work out what your web page is about: tell them. Hyperlink your keyword to your website, but don’t use the same form of keyword from every webpage linking to yours. Mix them about so as to keep the links fresh.

j) And lastly: keep adding pages to your website. A single website containing 80 pages will likly provide you with more visitors that two of 40 pages due to a higher overall Google listing from the former as compared to both of the 40 page sites. Refresh your content frequently by adding new pages, but don’t ignore your older pages: rdevise these now and again with new vocabulary. Google detests stagnation.

These are just a few SEO hints and tips that can teach you how to optimize a web page. There are many, many more. Some quite basic, others very much more advanced than the above. However, you can’t get everything free!

What is Organic Search Traffic?

Organic search traffic simply means the traffic (search users) that finds your website through the left side of any major search engine such as Google or Yahoo. When you do a search online with a popular engine, the results you see on the left are considered organic.

The term “organic” is used because any result that comes up in the #1 spot is only able to get to that result over time and must meet certain requirements. If you are familiar with the term Search Engine Optimization (SEO) this is the practice of tweaking one’s website so that they can get to benefit from top search terms in the search engines.

Savvy Internet Marketers prefer search engine traffic compared to pay-per-click traffic. For one, the traffic is free and it also converts anywhere from 5-7 times higher compared to pay-per-click traffic. When starting out, organic traffic is not easily collected in large volumes, your website has to be optimized which can take some time before it begins to enjoy #1 spots for certain keyword phrases.

You also have the task of building a somewhat elaborate website in order to begin to gain from organic traffic. There is another way, which is known as Content Marketing, with this method you are able to submit your content to another persons website that is already properly optimized and you guys share the traffic.

This is a great when when starting out online because you can be up and running within the next 24hours and not to mention its free.

I wasted 17months trying to drive profitable traffic to my website, but you should not do the same. Instead click here to get a copy of my “Quality Traffic Report”. • How to Use the Google Keyword Tool

I will go into the details of how to use this tool to start generating titles that make your topics profitable and optimized for maximum exposure.

Set It Up For The Proper Language

One of the first things you should do is to set up the tool for whatever country and language your major audience happens to be. You can find out what your biggest audience is regionally by checking the administrative panel of your website for the makeup of countries visiting your site. This is important, even for all English language sites because even English is spoken differently around the world. People in the UK will visit a site and see different spellings and instead of realizing that you are an American company, they might think you are just not a very good speller, and thus unprofessional. So, try to suit the tool to the language you want to highlight most.

At the very top of the tool you will see a sentence that says: “Results are tailored to English, United States.” There is a link next to that that simply says, “Edit.” Choose the link and change the main language and country, if necessary.

    Search Descriptive Words Or Phrases

The tool can search three different ways, based on a keyword or phrase, based on a URL, or based on some content. For this section, we’ll concentrate on choosing to search by descriptive words or phrases by making sure that radio button is selected. Next, you want to enter the word or phrase that you’ve brainstormed to start the process of finding other ideas or words that might work for you. You will need to type in the letters in the capcha facility that keeps spammers off the site, but it doesn’t do anything to your search results.

After you get the results back, you can search through the list and look at the competition for the keyword or phrase, the approximate search volume for the month, and the average search volume. In general, what you want to find is a word that has a low level of competition with a high search volume. Of course, that’s nearly impossible to find these days as advertisers are very savvy. But, you can at least get a good idea of which ones are worth trying to use. If you use something with a high advertiser’s competition value and a high search volume, the odds of being in the top search results are practically non-existent because major players are hogging the traffic on those.

There are other search metrics that you can add to your list after it is generated. You have to use the drop-down box that says,”Choose columns to display” to add other columns. One other column that is great to see in the results list is Estimated Avg. CPC, which gives you an idea of the payout associated with the keyword or phrase in the Google Adwords system. Using low competition words with high CPC values is one way to generate more Google Adwords dollars on your own sites, as SEO articles will cue the Google server to serve up ads related to what’s on your page. If it sees high-paying words, the ads served that people can have the opportunity to click are often also high-paying ads.

If you find some additional keywords in the results that lead you to new keywords, don’t be afraid to pull them out of the list and run them alone in the Keyword Tool to see what comes up. You will find this helps you to brainstorm different ways to find words for your topic title that are going to bring in traffic and money to your sites.

    Search Web Page URL

Another way to use the Keyword Tool to analyze the keywords being use on another web page. This is a great way to generate keywords off competitor’s sites without too much effort. If you know of sites similar to your own that are already doing a great job attracting traffic, then you should use this tool to find out what keywords they are using.

The way you do that is to switch the radio button from descriptive words or phrases to “website content.” It will then return a results list that will be sorted in groups by whatever the major keyword or phrase used happens to be. This is a very easy way to get a list of usable keywords, but do realize that keywords campaign change frequently as new trends are identified.

Generate Keywords For Already Written Articles

Maybe you’ve written articles already, but they’re not generating much attention. You can still use the tool to help you optimize the articles and change the titles. All you do is choose the “website content” radio button and use the link under the box for the URL to add your text into a box instead. Then, the tool will go through the topic and suggest keywords to use in it. All you have to do is change some words here and there and add a different title to get these stale articles to become stars in your writing lineup.

Just remember that you can’t put duplicate content on your website, or Google will penalize you. It doesn’t understand that you wrote the same articles, only that they appear plagiarized because more than one copy shows up. So, be sure to make the new articles sufficiently different so that you aren’t penalized by Google, or remove the old copies and replace them with new ones.

Affordable Online Writer Should Produce Evidence Of Successful SEO Work

Talk is cheap, they say and that is why it is very important for an online writer who claims to be effective and affordable to produce evidence of successful SEO work.

It could be work previously undertaken on behalf of a client, or best of all it could be SEO work in one of the affordable online writer’s own sites. The latter would prove one important thing, that you cannot do for others what you have not been able to do for yourself. So in marketing their own services as an online writer how effective have they been in using their own keyword-rich articles to get such good search engine rankings that they can constantly drive traffic to their own site and thus generate plenty of sales leads to make their business successful?

This is something that many people looking to hire an affordable SEO online writer do not usually check. Yet it is important and critical to get proof that the person you are working with can do what they say they can do.

The net is filled with content providers who have no problem generating well-written articles, but when it comes to SEO skills and the choice of the best keyword phrases to use for a specific site, they do not have the slightest clue.

Any online writer who does not possess SEO skills cannot possibly cliam to be affordable or even viable.

step to get high page rank

    Improve Search Engine Placement

The never ending quest for each and every webmaster is to generate more traffic, especially free traffic. The equation is simple more traffic equals more sales. No matter how good or well designed your site is if you are not able to improve search engine placement and get to page one for your search term your site is a dead duck.

To improve search engine placement there are a few very important factors to take into consideration. Most of these are general knowledge and nothing new, it is the failure to implement these factors where most go wrong.

The three main search engines, Google, Yahoo and MSN have different criteria to which a site has to conform to get to the first page. These elements vary from inbound links all the way to the keyword density of the page. Each of the search engines will rate a page differently based on the criteria and that is why in many cases you might have a top ranking page in the one search engine but in the other you are not even in the top one thousand sites.

This does sometimes get very depressing to say the least, why not just one system? Guess then there would only be one search engine and no more fun if everyone knew everything.

There are many theories, some claiming to be proven and others so new it seems like you are reading a science fiction novel. Then there are those that get so complicated by the time you are done you have no idea where you started.

The search engines and their ranking methods are not cut in stone, it is an ever changing environment leaving the poor webmaster more confused from day to day, some for the better and others for worse. Thank goodness for Prozac else we would live in a web mad online world.

The good news is that there is one fixed element that has been around for a long time, just very under utilized which will help you improve search engine ranking rather quickly if used correctly. So if you want better ranking and ultimately more traffic you know where to click.

Questions to Ask Your Next SEO Expert

If you are about to appoint someone to help you search engine optimise your site, then you are entitled to know what they are going to do. After all, you are probably paying quite a lot of cash for these services. But what are the right questions to ask?

Most will start with the on page review and make the changes. As long as that’s completed, there’s not much to ask about. Where most of the cash is spent is in the long term on link building and that’s where some dirty work can come into play from the less reputable companies.

Ask your proposed SEO provider what type of link building they will be doing. Hopefully they will mention posting to blogs and article writing. If they are posting to blogs, ask who’s blogs. Make sure they are not just leaving spammy comments on blogs. If article writing, who is writing the content and how much effort do they put into checking the articles are published with the links in place? You both have a vested interest in making sure this works. Ask to see some examples of these for previous customers and if they say they can’t because of confidentiality, be suspicious.

Some SEO experts will depend mainly or totally on some form of link exchanges. This is where you must be cautious. You should ask how they find people who are willing to put the links on their site. There will be two answers, either they are paid links or they are reciprocal links.

If they are a paid links, then they should be responsible for making sure that the link stays live for the agreed duration. The problem is if they are reciprocal links. If you are not having the link placed in your site, where is the link going and how are they finding these people?

This is where some sneaky work can come in to play. Some SEO experts have lists of sites that accept automated link exchanges. These third party sites think they are reciprocal linking to your site, but eventually notice large numbers of inbound links from the same useless directory with outgoing links to different sites. All you are actually paying for is for them to submit your links via an automated script. Quite often they don’t even bother to submit you to the correct pages within the links directory. Not only does this mean you aren’t on a themed page, but it is also wrecking the site owner’s links directory.

So how can you spot those with dubious links building against those with better reciprocal link building? Again, ask them for some examples of where they have placed links for customers and ask them where they provide the reciprocal link back. Again, be wary of those not willing to tell you - they are probably hiding something.

Once you know where they place links to other sites, have a look around site. Does it have a home page? Is the site listed in search engines? If not, then there’s a dubious practice or two in their outgoing links. Are there lots of near identical pages on this site of theirs? Have a look on the sites that are linked to and see if you can spot where their customers’ links are. Are they all on the same page or are they categorized?

Be very careful about how your paid SEO expert runs a link building campaign, otherwise it could be a very expensive way to get a lot of wasted links.

How to get Better Website ROI

Websites can cost from virtually nothing, to many many thousands. They are your company’s shop window in the information super highway. Millions are spent by high street stores researching and building the best shop fronts, yet the vast majority have done no form of keyword analysis research to determine what will give them better search engine ranks. Why is it that the humble website is so often overlooked as the powerful sales tool that it sure is, or could be. How do you get the best Return On Investment (ROI) on your website?

No matter what the investment, you will get no ROI without one thing: a return. Unless your website is earning you money, which means increasing your sales, there can be no website ROI. And if your customers don’t know your website exists, there can be no sales, so there can be no website ROI. The good news is that with the right search engine optimization company, it is easy to improve search engine ranking, and soon get better website ROI.

Depending on your business model, timescales and budget, it is often best to take a 2 pronged approach: Start by finding a good Pay Per Click firm offering a comprehensive Pay Per Click advertising package and take their Pay Per Click management service. This is the only legitimate and ethical way to get yourself on the first page of the search engines, same day. With the right Pay Per Click firm, this alone could produce better website ROI. However care must be taken to accurately track your leads and conversions from your Pay Per Click advertising, to ensure that you are making money on the advertising spend. Basically that your profit per customer is higher than the cost per conversion.

It’s worth pointing out though, that this calculation should be performed on the lifetime value of customers, not the profit per initial sale. If it’s right for your business, it is indeed a valid marketing strategy to lose money on the initial sale, in order to profit from pipeline sales. Super markets do this all the time, it’s called a Loss Leader.

The second prong is to engage a Search Engine Optimization Company, to work on better search engine rankings for your website. It may be that this Search Engine Optimization Company is the same as the Pay Per Click Firm in stage one. The one thing that you must start with is a proper targeted keyword analysis research. Don’t be proud and arrogant enough to think you can skip this step, because you think you know your business, your market and your customers. You can’t beat getting a professional job done of keyword analysis research, it is absolutely the most fundamental step you must take to getting better website ROI.

Once your top 5 key phrases have been agreed with your search engine optimization consultant, they will start the marathon of getting you better website ROI from improved search engine ranking. Expect this to take time, Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither will your dominance of your market place.

One last word, bear in mind that your online competition is not necessarily the same as your real life, bricks and mortar competition. In simple terms, your online marketing competition is anyone that ranks above you for your keyword analysis researched search terms. The nice part is, that the higher your search engine placement, the better the website ROI gets.

Internet Home Business - Basics Of Getting Started - Using A Keyword Research Tool, Part 3

If you read part 2 of this series then you’ll recall that I touched on the subject of brainstorming to gather some ideas on what you are knowledgeable about. Our purpose for doing this was to determine what untapped information you could market online. After all, there are millions of searches done online everyday for information. Our next step is too review the process of finding a niche market that is a great fit for your area of knowledge (expertise).

The best way to find out what niches are possibly being neglected that you could market to will require the use of a Keyword Search Tool. There are 2 reasons why this is a critical step:

    1. No matter how knowledgeable you are on the subject you’ve chosen, you must first determine if there is actually a market out there. I would recommend that you consider only those keywords or phrases that are searched for a minimum of 30,000 times a month.
    2. You next want to build a massive list of keywords and phrases that are relevant to your prospective subject (site). The more keywords you can find the more traffic you’ll attract to your site. You want words with high demand and low competition.

Once you’ve built your keyword list you want to spend some time organizing your keywords into related groups. There are 3 reasons for this:

    1. The Main keyword of each group that you just formed will serve as the title of your very targeted web pages.
    2. Each group of keywords will serve as a guide to help you develop extremely relevant content for your web pages. This will help you win points with the search engines.
    3. When you’re ready to create your ad campaigns for paid placements with Google, Yahoo, and MSN, you’ll be better situated to create ads that will have a greater chance of garnering high click-through-rates which should then translate into higher conversions (sales)

For example, I once created an affiliate ad campaign for a relatively new website (that is no longer in business due to some bad online business practices). It was generating a click through rate of 14%. I was paying $.05/click for the keyword “friends” and it had a conversion of 22%. The payout for each referral was $1.75. So, for every 100 clicks I was paying $5.00 to advertise and I was earning $38.50. This netted me a profit of $33.50. At that time I was generating 250-275 referrals per day for this “niche” site. My typical payday was a minimum of $400.

What investment do you know of that requires only $5 and returns to you $38.50? Certainly nothing at your bank, that’s for sure.

Now, I’m not implying that when you use a Keyword Search Tool that you you’ll be able to do the same thing, but I’m fairly certain without it you probably won’t. Using the right Keyword Search Tool is a must if you want to do an effective job of researching the internet for your niche market and if you’re determined to succeed at generating traffic for your niche. Think of it like using a real estate agent to find that perfect 4 bedroom ranch on the 2 acre lot in a neighborhood that is still somewhat undeveloped and has lots of trees. You could do the search yourself, or you can use the knowledge and expertise of this agent to make your search a bit more successful and a bit faster.

I will tell you this - I was absolutely amazed when I used a Keyword Search Tool to help develop one of my websites. Within 3 months I received a page rank of 2 with Google and was listed with all the major search engines. All this without any paid placement advertisements. As I regularly checked my site stats with “Google’s Analytics” I learned that my visitors were actually finding my site with the keywords that I had developed with the search tool and they were browsing my site for a good long time. Not only that, but they were bookmarking my site (usually 10%) and returning quite often.

This would not have happened if I had not taken the steps I have described above. There are a number of research tools that you can use. I recommend that you use a combination of them. You can read a bit more about this subject simply by going to the Keyword Research page of my site today.

Now that you know how to go about researching the web for the perfect niche, next time, I will delve into the topic of budgeting for your online business. So stay tuned.

SEO Traffic Analysis and Report - TOP 5 List

SEO is one of those scary words to many online business owners. It doesn’t have to be. One of the biggest mistakes websites make is doing there own thing thinking they know what will work and what won’t without doing the research that’s necessary. Before we get into the top 5 list of off-page optimization…

The most important thing you can do is copy the top ranked website for your keyword phrase to get the number one position! Copy exactly what they’re doing and then you need to do it just a little better. It really is that simple when you break SEO down. With that in mind, here is the TOP 5 List you need to work on to get that number one ranking:

    1. Number of Websites Linking to You

It is critical to get as many links from websites that are considered the authority. The easiest way to understand this is…

    2. The Google Page Rank of the Website Linking to You

Google assigns a page rank between 1-10 with 10 being the highest rank. The trick to figuring out the Google page rank of the sites linking to your competition is to download the Google Toolbar. In Google search, type the following: link: www.competition-site.com

This will show you all the sites that currently link to your competitor’s site. As you click on the results sites, view the toolbar which will show you the sites ranking. If that site has 5 authority sites linking to it with a page rank of 7, you need to find 6 sites that’ll link to your site with a page rank of 7. Do this with all the links you find for your competitors link partners.

    3. The Page Title of the Website Linking to You

The page title is very important to the links of the sites that are linking to you. Page title tells the search engine spiders what your page and website is about. From the title, you need to have a description of the site and follow up with keywords. A title of the website can do great things if it is optimized. The best way to optimize a page title is to use the primary keyword and secondary keyword. The best way to do this: primary keyword | secondary keyword.

So, if your site happens to be about fitness, then you could use the keyword diet as the primary and then you could use weight loss as the secondary keyword.

    4. The Anchor Text Used in the Link Linking to You

Anchor text is at the top of the list due to the critical nature of how a link is pointing to your site. Anchor text should always be the primary keyword your targeting. Link swapping usually allows you to create your link exactly how you want your link partner to display your link. Go to any link directory and you’ll quickly understand the sites that are optimizing there anchor text pointing to there site.

    5. The Number of Outbound Links on the Website that is Linking to You

The number of outbound links really does play an important role in how you link is perceived in search engines. If a site has you link on a page with 100 other links, your site will be penalized as that link will not have as much importance. A page should never go beyond 50 outbound links.

That is the TOP 5 list! Backlinks are absolutely critical to SEO. The biggest thing to do about backlinks is to work with a link partner and the type of anchor text they use on the link pointing to your site. Also, you need to work with them to link from a page that has your keyword phrase in the page. One way of doing this is to actually create the page for them that works to your advantage through proper latent semantic indexing content. Articles are a great way to do this. Your giving your partner content to go along with a link! Who in there right mind would not want to link to you?
